Mission Statement

The NCSU Roots & Shoots student organization is about making positive change happen - for our people, for animals, and for the environment. The Roots & Shoots network connects students who share a desire to create a better world. We identify problems in global and local issues related to conservation and take action. Through service projects, student campaigns and awareness outreach, Roots & Shoots members make an impact in their community and globally.

NC State Chapter of Jane Goodall's Roots and Shoots

Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots is the youth-led community action and learning program of the Jane Goodall Institute. The program builds on the legacy and vision of Dr. Jane Goodall to place the power and responsibility for creating community-based solutions to big challenges in the hands of the young people. Through the program, young people map their community to identify specific challenges their neighborhoods face. From there, they prioritize the problems, develop a plan for a solution, and take action all while developing the skills and attitudes to become part of the next generation of Dr. Jane Goodalls.

A Word from Dr. Dorgeloh

Many students have participated in the Namibia program over the years and several had life changing experiences like gaining a different perspective of their lifestyle, being more environmentally conscious and acquiring a real understanding of the challenges faced by conservationists. In 2010 a group of students were so inspired by the conservation challenges and solutions experienced first-hand in Namibia that they decided to start a conservation club at NC State. The Roots & Shoots conservation club (http://ncsurootsandshoots.blogspot.com) focuses on conservation locally and internationally, and held its first meeting in October 2011 with an unexpected large number of students in attendance. You are welcome to join the club and learn more about conservation. We also invite you to view photos and videos of previous trips on facebook Namibia Study Abroad.
